How to Drape a Saree for a Flawless Look

How to Drape a Saree for a Flawless Look

1. Choose the Right Undergarments:

  • Blouse: Make sure your blouse fits well and complements the saree. It should be comfortable and give you good mobility.
  • Petticoat: Wear a petticoat (a long skirt) in a color that matches your saree, or choose one that blends well with it. The petticoat should be tied securely around your waist.

2. Start with the Right Side of the Saree:

  • Begin by holding the saree so the loose end is in your left hand, with the right side facing outward.
  • Tuck the top edge of the saree into your petticoat at the right side of your waist, keeping it slightly higher than the belly button. Make sure it’s snug and even.

3. Wrap Around the Waist:

  • Bring the saree around your waist once, and then tuck it in securely on the left side at the back.
  • Make sure the saree falls evenly on both sides, with the pleats sitting nicely in the front.

4. Create the Pleats:

  • Now, create pleats (around 5-7) at the front, making sure they’re all of the same size. Each pleat should be about 4-6 inches wide.
  • Hold the pleats together, ensuring they face the same direction, and tuck them into the petticoat at the center of your waist.

5. Drape the Pallu:

  • Take the loose end of the saree (the pallu) and drape it over your left shoulder.
  • The length of the pallu can vary, but it should fall to the floor or around your waist depending on the style you prefer. Adjust it to your desired length.
  • The pallu can be pleated as well for a more structured look, or it can be left flowing freely.

6. Secure the Pallu:

  • If you're using pleats for the pallu, pin them at your shoulder for a secure and polished look. If you prefer a more relaxed look, leave the pallu free-flowing.
  • Make sure that the pallu falls gracefully and doesn't look bulky.

7. Final Adjustments:

  • Check the pleats at the front for neatness and ensure the saree is even on both sides.
  • Adjust the pallu to make sure it’s draped to your satisfaction.
  • Pin the pallu at the shoulder (or at the back) if necessary, to prevent it from slipping.

8. Perfect the Fit:

  • Once you’ve draped the saree, take a step back and look at your overall look in the mirror. Ensure that everything is in place, and adjust as needed.
  • You can also tuck the extra fabric from the petticoat into the pleats for a more streamlined finish.
